Biographie

Eric Robin est né en 1958 à Romans sur Isère dans la Drôme.
Il vit et travaille à Salon de Provence.

Il est initié à la peinture à l’âge de neuf ans, par son oncle, artiste peintre.

Il exerça le métier d’étalagiste pour des boutiques de prêt à porter de luxe, créant
ses propres décors.
En 1992, il ouvre à Salon de Provence, un espace dédié à l’art : galerie d’art, à la vente de matériel beaux-arts et d’encadrements.
De cet environnement artistique, naîtront ses premières créations et expositions.

A partir de 1998, il élabore une œuvre abstraite habitée de transparence et de vibration. Cette œuvre est obtenue par la technique de l’oxydation de la feuille
de cuivre (dorure à la feuille), qu’il perfectionne au fil des années.

En 2015, en complément des œuvres abstraites, il s’oriente vers d’autres recherches
et expressions qui lui permettent de créer de nouvelles œuvres en trois dimensions :
le papier froissé.
Chaque tableau de grand format, représente des dizaines de mètres de papier,
soigneusement préparés et dorés à la feuille, oxydés, peints, découpés, pliés.
Puis avec des gestes précis il froisse, colle en strates, créant ainsi une composition
tout en relief, pleine de subtilité, dont les jeux d’ombre accentuent les contrastes
et les fines nuances de transparence.

Aujourd’hui il expose en France et à l’étranger dans des galeries et des salons
d’art contemporain.

Since 1998 Eric Robin is elaborating an abstract work that has gradually changed over time, with copper gilding (imitation gold) as an inspirational material.

He started moolding on wood an unpolished and coarse resin, adding to it copper leaf gilding to highlight the contrast and resonance between the two materials.

From 2003, he has systematically explored the artistic potential of copper gilding, when applied on a base moolded according to gilding technique, and then given a patina, heated and/or oxidised with chemicals.

He started with small formats of gilded laminated paper, using heat, chemicals and various inks before engaging with bigger canvas, whose linen thread makes copper and ink vibrate.

Eric Robin thus combines art and chemistry to exalt the unique attibutes of copper and hence produces vibrant works reflecting light and transparence, gilding, substances and colors in a unique combination.

Uncertain, undecided and transparent shapes, contours and colours inhabit his works : copper gilding is open to chanc, incorporated by the artist as a material in its own right.
